MTV VMAs 2008 Fashion Re-Cap :: What They Wore

So. The MTV VMAs aired on Sunday. It was the first award show I’ve watched in a while. They’re so overrated now, so I just wait until the pics and videos hit the ‘net. This year’s host was Russell Brand, an English comedian, and boy was he annoying. Performances were made by Rihanna, Lil’ Wayne, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, and more. The 2nd biggest highlight of the night was Britney Spears’ attendance and her winning of 3 moon men awards, which are her first. The 1st, and best highlight was that all the celeb-fashionistas came out to party! Bring on the sequins…

* It seems Rihanna’s new fave designer is Peter Pilotto, as she’s recently been seen in one of his other creations. This fashionable ensemble seems a bit casual for the occasion, but it was definitely my fave red carpet look. Yahoo! omg! called it “Worst: Rihanna disappointed in a low-cut black top, asymmetrical skirt, and putrid white pumps.” — but I totally disagree! I think the white pumps are what topped it off. If she had matched it up with a black pair, it would’ve been too dead. I’m dying to know who her stylist is.

* I think we’ve established how much of a Ciara fan I am, but I always give credit where it’s due — the same goes for “thumbs downs”. And Ci, I’m sorry, but that hair ruined this entire look! The outfit was lovely, but that hair just has to go!

* As for LC, I’m still kind’a undecided as to whether I still like her, or not, but that outfit was super-cute! The metallic hand-painted design glams it up.

* Jordin looked very sweet in her Betsey Johnson party dress.

* Solange rocked a tiered Moschino dress, green frilly sandals, and THAT F*-ING Fendi bag that she carries EVERYWHERE! She’s taking the whole “not matching” thing way too far. I mean, I wear my fave brown sandals with practically everything in my closet, but not when I’m rocking dark green, and weird shiny pink materials. Solange is turning out to be Fashion Week’s biggest loser!

* Miley has really been hitting the nail on the head lately with her age-appropriate ensembles. This time she paired a shimmery black pailette-covered Zac Posen mini-dress, with patent leather gladiator heels. She’s so cute!

* Ashley Tisdale. I like her. I’ve never actually watched that movie [High School Musical], but she just seems so sweet, especially in this white-sequined Roberto Cavalli dress. I like her new haircut too.

* I think Christina’s turning back into X-tina! I just don’t understand. Before the baby, she was rocking the whole “Baby Jane” 50s Pin-Up Girl look, but now she’s packing on the make-up, revealing way too much cleavage! She looks like Aubrey O’Day from Danity Kane — with less hair!

* B. Spizzy. Back in tha house! LOL. Anyways, Brit looked amazing at the VMAs, with her new slim figure. That dress was so perfect for her, it reminded me of the old “America’s Sweetheart” Britney. BTW, that Versace dress is actually a modified version of the vintage design — it was originally a long gown. Oh, and her hair was on point too!

* Audrina looked really cute in this gold-accented bubble dress. I’ve seen it somewhere before, on at least 2 people, but I can’t figure out where!

* LiLo showed up in a purple satin House of Holland dress, and purple and gold YSL platform heels. I wouldn’t really say this is a bad look, but I am glad that she took the time to do her hair. And, who told her it was okay to where a full purple dress, with purple heels, that aren’t even the right matching colors? She could’ve at least matched. Sometimes I wonder if it was that hard to just throw on a black pair, or white pair of heels.
