Spring/Summer 2009 Trends:: Exotic Prints

[Clutch; Sandals; Belt; Pumps; Satchel]
Fresh off spring vacation, and ready to get back to work, I’m excited to start the Fashionista101.com seasonal trends. I love spring and summer ones. And, my favorite one this season is no doubt the exotic trend. This sexy print is both a statement maker, and an outfit maker. Though some may look good in exotic-printed clothing, I think its always best to take the more subtle approach. Adding one or two exotic pieces (i.e. heels + clutch, or heels + bangles) to your outfit will spice it up, rather than make it look sleezy.
I purchased the brown snakeskin pumps (above) from Target. They’re actually more of a beige, than a brown, and I found them on clearance for only $19! I also bought the all-black snakeskin pair. I’m obsessed with them, but I wouldn’t recommend them for someone with a wider foot — there’s not much extra room left inside.

Singer Dawn Richard (Danity Kane) recently attended a Carrera Vintage Sunglasses event in NYC, sporting this lovely trend. I can’t tell if those are leggings or pants she’s wearing, but they bother me. Exotic prints, usually snakeskin, come in different colors, and patterns. The biggest problem with her pants is the fact that it looks like a real snake! I don’t think the “I’m wearing my pet snake” look is cute at all. Vanessa Hudgens, on the other hand, wore her exotic-printed top the right way, as she posed for cameras at an Access Hollywood event back in January. The print isn’t loud, yet still makes a great statement.
