Breaking News: Designer John Galliano Has Been Fired From Dior!

Comments Off

This has to be the most shocking and unfortunate news of 2011, thus far. Following fashion designer John Galliano’s suspension from the House of Dior over the weekend, news has broken that they have fired their star couturier (Galliano) with immediate effect! What was first said to be a “rumor” by Galliano’s reps was deemed true when videos of the 50-year-old British designer’s anti-Semitic rants hit the ‘net.

Sources have also reported that John Galliano made anti-Semitic and racial slurs on multiple occasions! So, this is not the first incident. And, his comments are literally illegal in France!

Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman, who is currently the spokesperson for Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, spoke out against this incident stating she was “disgusted” by John Galliano’s racist rant.

“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”

…I am so sorry to hear the news, as I and millions of others are fans of Galliano’s aesthetic and designs. But if he turns into a totally different person when he’s not creating those gorgeous couture gowns (i.e. assaulting people in bars, etc.), then I am not sorry. You reap what you sew!

Racism is a very ugly characteristic, and if they would have continued to let him get away with it, then others like him will never learn. And, I do hope he learns from this lesson!

There’s still no word as to whether John Galliano will cancel his own runway show during Paris Fashion Week (March 6th), or who will present Christian Dior’s collection on March 4th.

Dior Fashion House Suspends Designer John Galliano!

Comments Off

Following designer John Galliano’s arrest at a Parisian bar, it has been reported that the Christian Dior fashion house has suspended their head designer and creative director.

The police detained Galliano at La Perle, a trendy bar in the Marais district of Paris, at about 9 p.m. Thursday, a police official said. He was then brought to the police station for questioning on charges of “light violent acts” and “insults of anti-Semitic nature.” It was also reported that his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal driving limit, so once released from police custody, he had to be accompanied home.

His lawyer, Stéphane Zerbib, contested the claims stating, “There was never the slightest comment of a racist or anti-Semitic connotation.”

“Christian Dior has an unequivocal zero-tolerance policy regarding anti-Semitism and racism,” the chairman and chief executive of Christian Dior Couture, Sidney Toledano, said in a statement earlier today. Until the conclusion of a police investigation into the incident, it’s unclear what Dior and Galliano plan to do about their Paris Fashion Week presentations (March 4th & 6th).

Of course, the show must go on! And, I hope that the anti-Semitic/racial bits are only rumors.

Lanvin for H&M Video

H&M has finally released it’s Lavin-collaboration short film. It is very interesting, and will remind you a bit of the movie Inception. The film takes place in a hotel, and everyone is of course dressed in Lanvin — even the maids, who sport a pair of red Lanvin earrings ($19.95) and black patent leather pumps ($99). A girl (supermodel Natasha Poly) who’s upset with her boyfriend says she doesn’t want flowers or diamonds…she wants Lanvin! The girl on the treadmill, the ones in the waiting room, the ones in the elevator, and even some guy’s girlfriend and his mistress are dressed in some fabulous pieces from the collection. There are so many different things going on in the video, that you may find yourself getting a bit confused, but it ends up just taking you back to wanting Lanvin!

Look Book: Lanvin for H&M!

Lanvin for H&M Look Book3

The Lanvin for H&M collection has to be themost highly-anticipated H&M collaboration. The merchandise won’t be available for purchase until November 20th, but we’ve been getting worked up since late August! Now, the lookbook is finally here, and I swear I died maybe 3x while skimming through the photos.

There’s all of winter’s hottest trends; from furs and floral cocktail dress, to leopard print pumps and ruffles. Dresses range from $149 to $249, all women’s shoes are $99, and women’s coats are $149 to $349. It’s a very “holiday-ish” collection, with satins, ruffles, and some pretty awesome accessories ($19.95 and up)!

I guarantee there’ll be huge lines of women (and men, as Lanvin is also debuting his “for H&M” Men’s collection that day as well) waiting outside of H&M stores all across the country on the morning November 20th. And don’t worry about being too late to snag something of your own — I bet eBay-ers will be reselling them. Yeah, they may double (or triple) the prices, but you know you’ll still buy it. After all, it is Lanvin!
