::SUNDAY, JANUARY, 4, 2009::THIS WEEK’S FASHIONISTA IS::

**MAYA, 26, (BRONX, NY)**

Maya’s

*PERSONAL STYLE*
“I don’t think I have a particular style — I wear items that flatter my body, and I try not to follow “trends”, because some just don’t work for me. I get my inspiration from the streets. There’s lots of people out there
that dress better than most celebrities. I am my own person. Today I’m wearing men-inspired flats
with wide leg pants, and tomorrow I might just break out a neon dress with some high platforms heels.
I’m crazy like that. Its fashion. Express it! And, I will tell you one thing — I am 5′10″, but I LOVE wearing heels!” -Maya

Best of 2008: Show Stopper of the Year

Rihanna has been the most consistent fashionista on the red carpet this year. What I think sets her far apart from the others, is the fact that she seldom lets us down — if she ever does, its a guarantee that she’ll hit us with another winner. Aside from the Bajan beauty looking amazing in EVERYTHING, her style is not limited. Rihanna can work the hell out of a slinky Gucci gown, a quirky Zac Posen party dress complete with plume feathers and ruffles, knee-high Balenciaga sandals, or even a conductor hat!

Rihanna was also chosen as the “face” of Gucci’s new Tattoo Hearts collection, and was even the inspiration behind the entire concept. With that, came amazing and exclusive gowns, heels, bags, jewelry — whatever. She still has a huge contract with CoverGirl, and even worked with H&M to design t-shirts for ‘Fashion Against AIDS’.

Besides fashion, Rihanna is a huge beauty buff — you can always find her in the hottest nail colors and trends. But, let’s not forget about those amazing cropped cuts she wore — mushroom, piecey, curled, sweeped, slicked, fluffed, burgundy, brown, jet black, silver hair streaks…the list goes on!

When Rihanna’s not on the red carpet, you may find her producing hits like this year’s ‘Disturbia’, performing on stage, in sexy patent leather dominatrix pieces or wearing something exciting like a jeweled chain link dress by The Blonds, you can either find the young fashionista shopping in LA or Paris, at a fashion show abroad, with her bf, Chris Brown, or out getting her latest tattoo.

When I use the term ‘Show Stopper’, I basically mean the one who always “wows” us, and the one we’re always dying to see. She’s usually the first one to rock the latest trend, and if not — she’ll be the one to wear it the best. Last year, Beyoncé was my choice for ‘Show Stopper of 2007′, but this year — Rihanna rocked my world!

Best of 2008: Style Maven of the Year

Solange has had a very exciting year. She released her sophomore album, ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’, and shot some amazing videos to go along. Though she sometimes drives a stake through my heart with her “unique” ensembles, I have to admit that she is a great dresser, and has an amazingly broad sense of style.

Solo (my nickname for her) is in love with statement pieces. If she’s not the best dressed at the party, she’ll definitely be the most talked about! Some of her fave styles include well detailed pieces like the feathered, beaded, chiffon Jenny Packham dress she wore to this year’s World Music Awards, her fave dragonfly Miu Miu heels, and her assortment of Fendi and Armani belts and pieces.

Speaking of Armani — the 22 y.o. beauty was selected as Armani’s offical ambassador, which means she “gets free swag” (clothes, shoes, and accessories), and attends some fab events like their boutique openings and fashion shows in Milan.

When Solange isn’t performing or strikin’ a pose on the red carpet, you can find her shopping in London, showcasing her love for creative nail designs, or vacationing with her family and 4 y.o. son, Daniel.

Happy 1st BDay Fashionista101 !!

F101’s 1st bday actually fell on November 30, 2008 — and no, I did not forget — I just wanted to wait and celebrate it, along with some fab holiday ‘08 posts. But first, I want to thank a few people that I’ve met along the way, and have helped to make this site what it is…

I’d like to thank: My mom (LOL. She’s my #1 fan!), Stephanie (of BrownSista.com, who has become one of my closest friends, and has basically “taken me under her wing”), all the fab fashion bloggers including Chi Chi (of Urban Hoopla) and Teenuh (of Fashion For Breakfast) — thanx for the support! Ondrea (my fashionista twin and therapist. LOL.), my bff Amisha (she’s the greatest and we’re going 4yrs strong!), my pal and Versace “connect”, Patrice (I’ll meet you at the top!). My Fashionistas of the Week (you’re all proof that fashion doesn’t only live in magazines, but in real life also), all the fab ladies I’ve interviewed on the site (proof that success and dreams aren’t impossible!), all the celeb fashionistas including Rihanna, Beyoncé, Cassie, and MK & A Olsen (you all give me something to write/talk about, so keep successing), and LAST, BUT MOST DEF NOT LEAST — ALL MY READERS AND FASHIONISTAS IN GENERAL THAT CONTINUE TO SUPPORT ME, AND THE FASHIONABLE LIVES THAT WE LIVE!

REMEMBER: Be Great. Be Fabulous. Be Creative. Be YOU!

* Thank You!
